How to Earn Gems on Growtopia

In Growtopia, gems hold the title of being the official currency. Gems can be used to buy items in the store, like packs, locks, jammers, leashes, and more, unlike other items often used as currencies such as World Locks, which are used outside of the official store. If you're looking to earn gems to buy that special thing you really want in the shop, then this guide will help you learn the many methods of earning gems on Growtopia.

Watching Videos

Watching Videos on How to Earn Gems on Growtopia

1
If you use a mobile device, watching videos provides you with a random amount of gems, often ranging between one and fifty, sometimes more. Most videos are advertisements that are all thirty seconds or less. Though this might not sound like much to someone who is more experienced on Growtopia, it can really help out if you're a newbie. You can buy small, inexpensive packs like seed and clothing packs and small locks as well as other cheap items the store offers its players.

Farming Manually

1
Unless you are new to Growtopia, there's quite a good chance you know what farming is. Farming is the simple process of breaking blocks to eventually become rich, both in gems and in World Locks. The better the farmable, the better results you will get in the end. Keep in mind that while farming doesn't have a fee, it can take quite some time once you've gotten far. You will need to be diligent about farming if you really want to go from rags to riches.

2
Unless you are very new and it's hard for you to get good farmables, avoid using simple farmables like Bricks, Wood Blocks, etc. Instead, use better farmables that have a higher rarity. If you're looking to get lots of gems by farming, try focusing more on farmables that provide you with lots of gems and experience points over seeds and blocks. For newer players, Sugarcane, Venus Guytraps, and Blackrock are good farmables because they provide a decent amount of gems and are also quite cheap. For players who have played Growtopia a little longer than newbies, Blackrock, Venus Guytraps, and Pinball Bumpers are good choices. For rather older players, Pinball Bumpers and Chandeliers are good choices. Chandeliers especially have a higher focus on gems than seeds.

It goes in this order: Break the blocks. Collect all of the dropped items. Plant the seeds. Wait for the trees to grow. Harvest the trees. Place the blocks, then repeat the cycle.

Part 4
ATM Farming

1
ATM's are a type of block in Growtopia that cost about two to three World Locks each, and they provide you with 1-100 gems every 24 hours. Because of the unit price, ATM farming is only recommended for older players. If you aren't starting off super rich, you may only be able to purchase a couple ATM's. However, with patience, you can slowly invest in ATM's over time and eventually have many, leading you to riches in the end. It's also good to keep in mind that you won't become very rich with only a few ATM's. You'll need to have a massive amount of them if you really want to become wealthy. Unlike manually farming, ATM's do not provide you with experience points. If you get all of your gems from only ATM's, you won't be leveling up any time soon.

You can do this by either buying them in a trade world with World Locks or by buying many City Packs (found in the store) using gems.

It will be very fast and easy to earn gems once you have placed them all, as they all take one hit and can provide up to a hundred gems within a day. With so many ATM's giving you gems every day, you'll soon be rich.

If you don't want to purchase one, you can always find a world that has a "public Telephone" - a space in which there is a Builder's Lock set to Build Only, allowing you to use the Telephone publically by wrenching it! One world that has a public Telephone is CALLFORFREE. The phone is to the left of the white door.

Finding Small Alternatives to Earning Gems

1
As long as you have, for example, a willing friend or an alternate account that has gems on it, you can "transfer" gems across two accounts. To do this, you'll first need to obtain a Sack O' Joy if you do not yet have one. Then, get the other player to equip it and run around a small area. That player will drop gems from their own gem amount and you will be able to collect them. Keep in mind that doing this might take quite a while, as the player with the Sack O' Joy will only drop one gem per block moved. Make sure the dropper doesn't collect their own gems back.

2
Sometimes, you'll see players offering "free surgery", often as a broadcast. This means there is a surgeon who is willing to do surgery on other players for free, both players getting benefits if the surgery is successful. If this happens, the patient receives a hundred gems upon completion. Search for broadcasts that say something along the lines of "free surgery". You will then most likely be pulled onto a Hospital Bed at some point, then the player will perform the surgery. If it's a success, you'll get gems to celebrate! Whenever surgery is performed on you, you'll get the Recovery mod for the next four hours, meaning there is a cooldown until you can be the subject of a surgery again. On Surgery Day, an event that randomly occurs once every month, the Recovery mod only lasts one hour, meaning you can obtain gems even faster.

These two blocks offer tons of gems when broken, therefore offering a fast way to obtain gems. Mystery blocks drop ten to fifty gems when broken, and the Pot O' Gold block drops up to 200 gems when broken. If you've got these blocks and don't know where to place them and need gems, they can be quite helpful for earning them quickly. It is highly recommended to not break the Pot O' Gold block. The item is somewhat good and only obtainable during St. Patrick's Week, and probably isn't worth it. The Mystery Block is much cheaper, more common, and drops seeds and blocks as well, unlike the Pot O' gold.

If you have trash and don't know what to do with it and you also have the Supporter status, you can recycle things you don't need. To recycle something, pull up your inventory, select the desired item you want to get rid of, then click "Recycle" on the right side. Keep in mind that recycling is often not worth it, unless you really don't care about where else your trash goes. To become a Supporter, you need to either need to make at least one in-app purchase or, if you are a mobile user, obtain a minimum of 7,000 gems through Tapjoy. Being a Supporter unlocks cool things like additional skin colors, the ability to Broadcast, the Recycle tool itself, and a couple of other small "perks". You can even become a Super Supporter by either spending $25 on in-app purchases or obtaining $25 worth of gems through Tapjoy. The Super Supporter status offers a larger name display, the /warp command, and more extra skin colors.
