How to Use Google Docs for Collaboration


There are many reasons to use Google Docs for student collaborative projects. Some are: Any group member can work on the same project from any computer. Even at the same time as someone else. Google will automatically save a student’s work. Students do not have to bring anything to class the day it is due. They can never lose it. Either it’s complete or it isn’t. A group member does not have to wait on another member to finish their part unless one part is required for the other. It is compatible with Microsoft Power Point and Word. Files can be imported or exported.

Go to www.google.com and click on the “Gmail” tab at the top. If you already have an email account, such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL etc., skip to 6.

Leave the recovery e-mail blank. Click “I accept. Create my account” at the bottom.

Open it and follow the instructions. You have now verified your new account.

Put your name or project title in the title box. Click on the “share” button on the top right and choose “invite people”. In the Invite box, add the e-mail addresses of your project members and your teacher’s if he/she requires it. Then click “send”.

There will be an e-mail from the Project Initiator, open it and click on the link in the email.

If one person makes a change, it will show up on all the other group member’s presentation.
