This wikiHow article shows you how to save an Instagram Story. Instagram Stories are great, but they disappear forever after just 24 hours. However, there’s an easy method for permanently saving your own Stories. There are also ways to save Stories from other Instagram users.

When you open the app, you’ll be taken to your feed. In the top left corner, you’ll see your Story represented by your profile picture and the text Your Story. Tap on it to start viewing what you’ve posted.

If you only have one picture or video posted to your story, you can skip to the next step. However, if you have multiple items in your story, tap the screen until you see the one you want to save.

In the bottom right corner of the screen, you will see three vertical dots right above the text More. Tap on this to bring up a menu of options.

This option will be second on the pop-up menu, just beneath Delete. On Android, tapping Save Photo or Save Video will automatically download it to your phone’s gallery. If you’re using an iPhone you will then be presented with two options: Save Photo/Video or Save Story. Tap Save Photo/Video to save the individual image or video you have selected. Tapping Save Story will save everything from your Instagram Story as one whole video.

The Instagram app doesn’t allow you to download other users’ Stories. However, there are some alternatives that allow you to do just that. If you're using a computer, you can use storiesig to download any public story from Instagram.

In the middle of the screen, you’ll see “username” in gray text just above a thin black line. Click on the text and type in the username of the Story you wish to download. You should now see the account associated with the username you entered.

This displays the user's stories in chronological order.

You will now be on a page that lists out the account’s Stories in chronological order. Scroll down until you find the picture or video you want to save.

Beneath each photo or video, there will be a large DOWNLOAD button. Click on this to save it to your computer or mobile device.

Part 3
Using Story Saver for Android

There are a number of apps that can do this, but Story Saver is very highly rated and a popular choice. Search for it in Google Play or download it here:

Once the app is downloaded, open it. The Story Saver app icon has a white down arrow on it and a pink, red, and yellow background. You will be prompted to “Sign in with Instagram.” Tap on this button and then enter your login credentials and hit Log in.

You will now see a list of every account you follow on Instagram. You can scroll through this list to find the correct account, or you can tap the search icon in the top right corner of the screen if you know their username. Once you have found the account, tap on it to see their Story.

Doing this will give you three options: Repost, Save, and Share. Click Save to save the image or video to your device. In order to download photos and videos with Story Saver, the app will ask you to let it access your photos, media, and files. Tap Allow when this pops up, or you won’t be able to save anything.

Part 4
Using Story Reposter for iOS

Apple is stricter when it comes to this type of app, so some popular choices have already been removed from the App Store. However, Story Reposter is available and does the job:

Once Story Reposter finishes downloading, tap on it to open it up. The app icon is a pink background with a camera icon on it. Tap on the white search bar in the center of the screen and type in the username associated with the Story you want to download.

If you typed in an exact username, there should only be one result. However, there could be a list of accounts to choose from. Find the correct account in the search results and tap on it to view their Story.

You will see a list of photos and/or videos the user has posted to their Story. Find the file you want to download and tap on it.

You will then see a large Download option beneath the photo or video. Tap on this button, and then select Save to save the photo or video to your iPhone’s camera roll.
