How to Do Forward Swizzles in Figure Skating
Forward swizzles are out-and-in glides. You begin by having your feet in a V-shape, with the heels of your skates touching (not the blades), then using your thigh muscle strength to push and pull, while guiding your gliding feet with care. This article explains what to do.
Part 1
1
Keep your weight towards the back of each foot. Hold your arms out to the sides for balance (also forming a slight "V"). The blades should not be touching. Look straight forward.2
Shift your weight so that you start to glide forward on both feet, using your thigh muscles to help you to push out. Allow the feet to separate from each other slightly so they are parallel to each other. You can imagine that there was something on the ice in front of your that you had to pull your feet apart to skate over/around.3
The arms should be above the hip area.4
This creates a bit of an "A" shape. If you imagined skating around something when imagining the item on the ice, now imagine that you've managed to get to the other side and can pull your feet back together.5
When done correctly, you will be making "S" traces on the ice with each foot. The ice will look a bit like this ( ) when your feet drift apart and ) ( as you pull them back together.6
